Participate in Accreditation Evaluation at UC Davis on Oct. 30-31

UC Davis is in the process of seeking reaffirmation of its accreditation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission, known as WSCUC. UC Davis has been fully accredited since 1954, and accreditation is reviewed for reaffirmation every 10 years.

We want to begin this update by acknowledging that the last few weeks have been extraordinarily challenging for all of us. New difficulties have arrived on the heels of an already-painful academic year and then a brief period during which our hopes soared as COVID infection rates plummeted. Together, we breathed a collective sigh of relief — though, given that we were often part of large groups, we did so behind face coverings and at a safe distance from neighbors and friends.

Chancellor Gary S. May and his co-participants in the search for UC Davis’s new provost and executive vice chancellor have thus expressed their delight in finding Mary Croughan, who officially stepped into the position on July 1.

Croughan is a seasoned administrator in higher education with 30 years of experience with the University of California and three years at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

UC Davis Acting Chancellor Hexter Names Ken Burtis as Acting Provost

UC Davis Acting Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter has named Ken Burtis as acting provost, following approval from the UC Office of the President.

Burtis, a professor of genetics and past dean of the College of Biological Sciences, has served as faculty adviser to the chancellor and provost since 2011. In that role, Burtis served as a liaison with key campus constituencies and had a lead role in the 2020 Initiative, which involved strategic planning for campus growth, including enrollment management, facilities planning and academic resources.
