After consulting with UC Davis Police Department and UC Davis Student Affairs officials, the Davis College Republicans canceled tonight's event featuring Breitbart columnist Milo Yiannopoulos. The decision was made at about 7:00 pm, 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the event, after a large number of protesters blocked access to the venue, and it was determined that it was no longer feasible to continue with the event safely.

UC President Janet Napolitano announced today (Aug. 9) that she had accepted Linda P.B. Katehi's offer to resign as UC Davis chancellor. Later in the afternoon, Ralph J. Hexter, acting chancellor since April 27, issued the following statement:

“Today’s news ends a period of uncertainty at UC Davis. The resolution announced by President Napolitano permits us to focus all our efforts on moving the campus forward so that we can serve California, the nation and the world ever more effectively.”
