Can Autonomous Vehicles Dream of Electric Traffic?

An engineering professor at the University of California, Davis, is striving to make autonomous vehicles, or AVs, safer by changing how researchers train them.

According to Professor Junshan Zhang of the UC Davis Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, AVs struggle when confronted with unforeseen events, such as a car driving on the wrong side of the road.

A new visitor is making the rounds at the University of California, Davis鈥� West Village neighborhood.

Through June 1, San Jose-based Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corporation鈥檚 (SAIC) Innovation Center is demonstrating its automated, all-electric shuttle around a defined loop of the solar-panel-lined West Village community as part of an agreement between the auto company and UC Davis.

Roadkill Report a Roadmap to Avoiding Wildlife Collisions

Collisions with wildlife continue to cost up to half a billion dollars each year in California, primarily within the central Sierra Nevada and San Francisco Bay Area. But certain highways have especially high numbers of wildlife collisions, according to the annual roadkill report from the UC Davis Road Ecology Center.
