Coping With Climate Stress in Antarctica

Some Antarctic fish living in the planet鈥檚 coldest waters are able to cope with the stress of rising carbon dioxide levels the ocean. They can even tolerate slightly warmer waters. But they can鈥檛 deal with both climate change stressors at the same time, according to a study from the University of California, Davis.

California Climate Research Institute Proposed to Boost Climate Research and Action

California scientists spanning all 10 UC campuses and some private institutions are proposing a climate research institute that would help the state put climate solutions into practice, boosting both climate research and climate action.

Tiny Shells Indicate Big Changes to Global Carbon Cycle

Experiments with tiny, shelled organisms in the ocean suggest big changes to the global carbon cycle are underway, according to a study from the University of California, Davis.

For the study, published in the journal Scientific Reports, scientists raised foraminifera 鈥� single-celled organisms about the size of a grain of sand 鈥� at the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory under future, high CO2 conditions.

Three transportation revolutions are in sight, and together, they could help reduce traffic, improve livability, save trillions of dollars and reduce urban transportation CO2 emissions by 80 percent or more worldwide by 2050. That鈥檚 according to a report released today from the University of California, Davis, and the New York-based nonprofit Institute for Transportation & Development Policy.

But to receive the most benefit from electric, driverless and shared transportation, the three revolutions must happen at the same time.
