Restaurants in Davis, West Sacramento and Woodland are showcasing new vegan offerings this month for the Yolo County Vegan Chef Challenge, and three Dining Services eateries on campus are joining in with new dishes of their own.
Their dishes, available now through April 30, are:
- The Gunrock: The Silo pub and restaurant is offering a falafel plate with carrot hummus, quinoa tabbouleh, sumac onions and pita bread ($13).
- Spokes: The burger counter next door has created a new vegan option with a portobello mushroom serving as the patty, served with mojo aioli, lettuce, tomato and onion on a potato bun ($9.99).
- Scrubs Café: Those in the Health Sciences District of campus can partake in a masala dosa with Bombay potatoes, cilantro chutney and tomato chutney in a red lentil crepe ($8.95).
After clearing their plates, diners can . A total of 11 restaurants around Yolo County are participating in the challenge, which is overseen by the nonprofit Vegan Outreach. This year’s theme is “Go Green, Yolo!,” encouraging diners to consider plant-based options for their environmental benefit.
Last year, Executive Chef Janos Levin and Sous Chef Michael Chiu of Scrubs Café won an award for “Most Voted and Best Entrée” for their .
